Molybdenum market update on March 13, 2025
The domestic molybdenum market continues to exhibit a pattern of persistent declines that are difficult to halt, with the magnitude of price drops for molybdenum products slightly increasing. Today, the price of molybdenum concentrate fell by approximately 50 yuan, molybdenum iron by about 1,000 yuan, ammonium tetramolybdate by around 3,000 yuan, molybdenum powder by about 5 yuan, and molybdenum oxide by approximately 30 yuan. Against this backdrop, many downstream users remain willing to enter the market for consumption, but industry confidence in the future outlook remains notably weak.
In the molybdenum concentrate market, influenced by factors such as the difficulty in raising steel tender prices and the limited ability of the international molybdenum market to drive trends, suppliers in regions like Jiangxi and Inner Mongolia have generally adjusted their quotes downward to around 3,350 yuan/ton-degree. In the molybdenum iron market, the trading atmosphere has been lukewarm. With steel companies successively issuing tenders for molybdenum iron and the price of molybdenum concentrate dropping significantly, intermediate smelting enterprises have largely maintained rational pricing. In the molybdenum chemical and product markets, a prevailing wait-and-see sentiment dominates. Due to a lack of confidence in stabilizing raw material prices and limited growth in terminal demand, most holders of inventory have adjusted their quotes within a reasonable range.
Price monitoring data from the Jiangxi steel market and the Fuzhou Trade Plaza steel market indicate that, in February 2025, the sales prices of 44 monitored steel varieties showed a month-on-month trend of 9 increases, 29 decreases, and 6 remaining stable. The average sales prices of wire rod (high-line 6.5, HPB300) and (high-line 8, HPB300) were 3,731.25 yuan/ton and 3,625.00 yuan/ton, respectively, reflecting slight month-on-month increases of 0.71% and 0.80%, but year-on-year declines of 11.13% and 12.09%. The average sales price of rebar (φ12mm HRB400E) was 3,493.75 yuan/ton, remaining flat month-on-month but down 11.77% year-on-year.
