Molybdenum market update on March 14, 2025
This week, the domestic molybdenum market has continued to exhibit a relentless downward trend, with the decline in prices of numerous molybdenum products slightly larger than last week. The price of molybdenum concentrate, for instance, has dropped from approximately 3,480 yuan/ton-degree to around 3,350 yuan/ton-degree. This is primarily attributed to strong downward pressure from steel companies on molybdenum iron prices, recent fluctuations and declines in international molybdenum prices, and a heightened willingness among molybdenum mining enterprises to sell at reduced prices.
According to China Tungsten Online, the current price of molybdenum concentrate has decreased by approximately 130 yuan compared to last week, a drop of 3.74%; the price of molybdenum iron has fallen by about 3,000 yuan, a decline of 1.33%; the price of sodium molybdate has decreased by approximately 4,000 yuan, a drop of 2.45%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate has fallen by about 6,000 yuan, a decline of 2.65%; the price of molybdenum powder has decreased by approximately 13 yuan, a drop of 3.15%; and the price of molybdenum oxide has fallen by about 100 yuan, a decline of 2.80%. It is evident that the price drop for molybdenum raw materials this week exceeds that of molybdenum chemical products.
According to data from the China Iron and Steel Association, in late February, the daily steel output of key monitored enterprises across six major regions increased to varying degrees compared to the previous ten-day period. Specifically, the daily steel output in Northeast China increased by 27,000 tons, in North China by 91,000 tons, in East China by 91,000 tons, in Northwest China by 13,000 tons, in Southwest China by 10,000 tons, and in Central-South China by 32,000 tons.
